A fanlisting is a place for all the fans of a particular show, movie, actor/actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people all around the world who are fans of that subject. You can learn more about the idea behind it at TFL.org or you can even apply to get your very own fanlisting.
This fanlisting is for the tennis tournament Wimbledon. The tournament lasts two weeks and takes place between Southfields and Wimbledon in South West London (SW19, to be precise) at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, during the end of June and beginning of July. It is the oldest tournament which is still being played today - the first title was handed out in 1877 although it was originally played at grounds near Worple Road. Since then it has become the grandest of tournaments and the one that most players want to win above all else. Many of the great champions of the past and present have won at Wimbledon, including Lacoste, Tilden, Perry, Budge, Laver, Emerson, Ashe, Connors, Borg, McEnroe, Becker, Edberg, Agassi, Sampras and Federer on the men's side, and Lenglen, Smith-Court, King, Every, Navratilova, Graf, Hingis, Davenport, Williams and Williams on the women's.
Wimbledon is my favourite tournament. It was the first one I attended back in 2001, and I was stunned. Years later it hasn't stopped amazing me. There is a spark as you walk in the grounds, the elegance and the effort they put into every railing and co-ordinated flower, every single thing is designed to be Wimbledon. Walking around is magical, the atmosphere can't be replicated as much as other tournaments might try. I thought that I would stop being impressed and I have never been happier to be wrong. Since I was very young I have watched the tournament on tv so it was one of the best days when I got to go. I have since attended several other tournaments, but none can match the grandeur and tradition that Wimbledon has.I chose the title 'Triumph and Disaster' because of the quote that is inscribed above the entrance to Centre Court. Each time a player walks onto that court they see the words, and it is perfect for Wimbledon because it is something that each player has to go through on the grandest stage in tennis.
