This fanlisting is for the animated Disney movie Aladdin, first released in November 1992. It is the thirty-first full length animated movie produced by Disney, and became the most sucessful film released that year. It won two Academy Awards, Best Music and Best Original Song ("A Whole New World"), and was also nominated for Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing, Best Sound, and another Best Original Song nomination for "Friend Like Me", and several Golden Globes. The story follows a street rat, Aladdin, and his monkey Abu. He meets Princess Jasmine in the markets of Agrabah after he has escaped (undercover) from the palace and falls in love with her. He is captured by the palace guards for kidnapping the princess, and is thrown in jail by Jafar, the Sultan's most trusted advisor. However, Aladdin is taken to steal a lamp from the Cave of Wonders, a place that only the diamond in the rough can enter and after Jafar traps them in the cave, he releases the genie that is inside the lamp. With the genie's help, he concocts a plan to marry Jasmine by becoming a prince. Although at first she is wary, she eventually falls for him after he takes her on a magical carpet ride and declares that she is going to marry him. When Jafar reveals Aladdin to be nothing more than a beggar and a liar, she is shocked and Jafar banishes him to the far ends of the earth. Jafar then takes control of the genie, and forces Jasmine to marry him. When Aladdin returns, he discovers that Jafar wants to be the most powerful beig in the world, and tricks him by telling him that the genie is still move powerful. Realising that Aladdin is right, he tells the genie that he wants to become one himself and is sucked into the lamp wih Iago. The Sultan then changes the law so that Jasmine can marry whoever she wants, and she chooses Aladdin, and he sets the genie free.

Aladdin was one of my favourite films as a child and it hasn't stopped being on of them as I've grown up. I might even have come to appreciate it more. It's a fantastic piece of work, the art and animation in the movie is outstanding and I love the landscapes and backgrounds that were used, the music fits the movie so well and is so catchy and the characters are all really interesting. They're all likeable, even Jafar. It's definitely a movie that I can watch again and again... and again. It's fantastic.

The title 'Arabian Nights' comes from the first song in the movie, which is sung over the opening scenes, showing the desert. It isn't the song that is most well known from Aladdin but as a title, and as a title song, it fits perfectly.
